Song Lyrics for a Dreary Day

Posted in Connells by schoolofrock on the June 3, 2008

Not feeling so amazed
but doing alright
Unguarded and unfazed
but doing alright

Out of boredom
I decided I’d get with it
And it only hardened my wits
What of this?

Unharnessed, that fits
What of this?
And I started to imagine Appomattox

Well it’s dull, brown and gray
Like all the things we do
that don’t go away

Out of boredom, I decided I’d get with it
Well, its dull, brown, and gray
Like all the things we do
That don’t go away
Its like all the things we do
Its dull, brown, and gray
Well, its dull brown, and gray…

Return of the Alt Country Show

Posted in Upcoming Show by schoolofrock on the June 2, 2008

Hey Everyone!

The doctor is back from vacation. It was great, thanks for asking.

Tomorrow (06/03) we will be doing a LIVE repeat of our show celebrating Alt-Country music.  You remember the stuff, right?

A set list that includes some of the latest from the Old 97s new CD Blame it On Gravity as well as great music from Blue Rodeo, Uncle Tupelo, Richard Thompson, Bright Eyes, Wilco, Son Volt, Buddy Miller, Richard Buckner, The Waco Brothers, Eric Ambel, and Justin Townes Earle.  Of course we will also be playing some classics from Grand Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers, Johnny Cash, and Creedence.

We will be profiling a new great Alt Country band, Thrasher Cadillac!  Check them out at:

http://www.thrashercadillac.com
http://myspace.com/thrashercadillac

And we will also discuss what makes a great Alt Country song…

So, this Tuesday — 2pm on WUDR — that is where the country is being played.  The real country that is.  We will also be playing a tribute to the great Bo Diddley! A Rock and Roll pioneer who influenced many genres of music!

So as always tune in, stream in, do what you need to do… and let your pal good ‘ol Dr. J know what you think at drjwudr@gmail.com.

Bo Diddley Passes Beyond the Veil

From our Friends at Rising Hegemon:

For those of us who care about the history of Rock and Roll, Rock, Pop, R&B, Rhythm, Juke Joint Music, and all of the intersections of guitar driven music — we have lost a giant of music today.

Say what you want but in this era of computer generated artists and so-called “singers”, Bo Diddley was one of the original players of blues-rock-guitar stomp.  He may not have been as pure as other founding figures but he could grab an audience and make them shake their groove-thing with just a guitar, driving beat, and a voice as rough as sandpaper.

Well said.

Bo died of heart failure Monday at the age of 79.  We will be playing a tribute to him on our show tomorrow 2-4pm.
