Big surprise for us… yesterday we were able to do our last radio show of this year.  Dr. J was joined by the media darling Atta J. Turk of the Rising Hegemon.  The show featured several live songs from The Connells and requests made by several fans of the show.

Old Crow Medicine Show on Austin City Limits

Posted in music on tv by schoolofrock on the December 6, 2007

Be sure to mark the weekend of December 22 on your musical calendars.  That’s when Old Crow Medicine Show will work their musical magic on Austin City Limits. Lucinda Williams will also perform.  Let’s hope they play Wagon Wheel!

12/4 show

Posted in show recap by schoolofrock on the December 6, 2007

Hope you attended the school of rock on Tuesday.  The straight-A playlist included songs from Debbie Harry (her new one, Two Times Blue), Rilo Kiley (the hand-clappily delicious Silver Lining), former Paste magazine band of the week Ferocious Bubbles (Airport), Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (the rockin’ Face Down), the fabulously fabulous (what else can I say?) band Old Crow Medicine Show (Wagon Wheel, sweet, rootsy, and one of my favorite songs), and the Doug MacMillan-led Clifmen (Writer).

Dr. J noted his webpick of the week, emusic.com.  eMusic offers more than 2 million tracks from more than 13,000 independent labels, and is a reasonably priced subscription-based service that allows you to own the music that you download.  The eMusic roster includes labels Concord Music Group, Merge, Cooking Vinyl, and Razor & Tie, and tons more.

Blogmeisters Water Tiger, and res ipsa loquitur and the oh so snarky (and relatively good looking) Atta. J. Turk from the Rising Hegemon called in to give us our weekly political punchup.

New inductees this week to the school of rock and roll hall of fame: the band of myths and legends Big Star, inducted by Mrs. Dr. J because Big Star was one of the original power pop bands and I am nothing if not a fan of a good power pop band), and pop and cultural icons Blondie, inducted by Dr. J.  Get yur seventies fix here, folks!

The last big school of rock show of the year will be next Tuesday, on Flyer Radio WUDR 99.5.   Be there, or…you know.

–Mrs. Dr. J
